Bentley Systems is a global leader in infrastructure engineering software, providing solutions for the design, construction, and operation of infrastructure assets such as roads, bridges, and utilities. As a part of their 40th anniversary celebrations, they developed a commemorative book, telling the story of the company. They came to us with the objective of creating a microsite that mirrored the elegance and narrative of their printed anniversary book while leveraging the digital medium to reach a wider audience.
Maintaining the feel of a book within a digital context required some serious attention to detail. By making each chapter its own page, we were able to incorporate what would usually be a section break in a printed book. The navigation also feels more like a Kindle progress bar than a traditional nav menu with the length of each chapter visualised.
The use of scroll features also played a role in improved UX with horizontal scrolls incorporated for timelines and sticky image scrolls to visually hold attention through longer chunks of content. The integration of Global Accessibility best practice also played a role in creating a seamless digital experience while directly reflecting the sophistication of the printed book.
The whole process was developed in close collaboration with the Bentley Systems team on an incredibly tight timeline, going live just in time for a major event to celebrate the milestone. And it was not only a beautiful, elegant translation of book to digital – it was a custom-built, high-performing static microsite with great security, exceptional responsiveness, and fast load times for a seamless user experience.
